FAQ

What is a Chamber?

A chamber of commerce is a representative body for business members in their town. Each chamber town has its own elected executive committee, who are volunteers that are members of the chamber. The executive set the programme of events for their own chamber, hold regular meetings and represent their members on outside bodies such as the council, area boards and community partnerships.

What is the Wessex Association of chambers of commerce?
WACC is a not-for-profit organisation currently made up of 17 individual chambers of commerce and one business association. Collectively, the Wessex association represents almost 1200 member businesses across Wiltshire, which allows greater influence on decisions being made in those chamber towns.

Why should I join a Chamber?
To maximise your business opportunities and ensure that your views are represented when decisions about your town are made.

I’m a Chamber member, why should I join the Association?
Depending on the nature and size of your business, it may benefit you more to become a member of a larger organisation such as the Wessex Association, where you have broader opportunities to network and market your business outside of your immediate trading town.

I have a small business, would it benefit me to join the association?
Yes! Even from an information sharing point of view, as a member you can access business advice and utilise the networking opportunities to market your company.

Can I come to events if I am not a member?
Yes! But you will be limited to a small number of events before you would be expected to join. We encourage businesses to attend a few events to see first hand what the benefits of membership are.

How much does it cost to join?
It depends on the size of your business and the type of membership you want. Go to our member benefits page for all the details you need with a breakdown of membership types and related costs.
